Monarch Beach Golf Links’ Eric Lohman Named
2017 Southern California PGA Golf Professional of the Year
General Manager of Monarch Beach Golf Links – Eric Lohman, PGA – earned the honor of 2017 Southern California PGA Golf Professional of the Year. In addition, he received the Bill Strausbaugh award recognizing his career development work for PGA professionals. Both awards were presented at the annual SCPGA President’s Dinner held on December 3 at Newport Beach Country Club.
“It is a tremendous honor for me to receive this special award,” said Lohman. “I’ve been involved with the game one way or another from an early age, it’s very gratifying to see my efforts recognized. I truly appreciate it.”
25 years of experience and counting
Indeed, Lohman has been active in the golf and hospitality industry for more than 25 years. For the past 15, he has held managerial positions such as PGA Director of Sales and Marketing, PGA Director of Golf, and PGA General Manager.
Growing up with the game of golf
Lohman grew up with golf in one of the game’s hottest hotspots – the Coachella Valley. There he honed his skills as an accomplished high school player at Palm Springs High School with amateur accolades including a win at the 1993 Washington State Amateur. Collegiately he lettered as a freshman at the University of Houston before returning to SoCal to finish his college golf career as a Bruin. And as an active participant in Southern California PGA events, he qualified for the national PGA Professional Championship in 2014 and 2015.
From passion to profession
Mostly working in the public/resort golf sector, Eric has worked for numerous management companies including his current employer OB Sports based in Scottsdale. Other clubs include The Reserve in Aloha, Ore.; Trophy Lake in Port Orchard, Wash.; Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, Calif.; Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda, Calif.; and Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, Calif.
A PGA Member since 2000, Eric has served for several years on the Board of Directors for the Metro Chapter of the SCPGA; he’s been an active participant in numerous Section committees; and is currently a Board member for the Section. Some of his accomplishments as a board member include creating the annual Chapter Challenge, reintroducing the Southern California Open which he hosted three years at Monarch Beach, and most recently he helped develop and host the very first Influencer Speaker Series as an arm of the Mentorship Committee, which he is also the chairperson.
For many years Eric has been a Nike Golf Elite Staff Member, and currently is a member of the Callaway Master Staff program. Eric, along with his wife Lauren and their two daughters Harper and Sutton, resides in Newport Beach.
